The staff of the Natural Resources Damage (NRD) program recently released a draft plan for spending $65.5 million to improve fishery and wildlife habitat and related recreational opportunities in the Upper Clark Fork basin. The State of Montana won this money from a court settlement with BP-ARCO to cover a century's worth of mining damage to the Clark Fork headwaters. At the Coalition, we're very pleased with the plan. It's an integrated, ecologically-sound, science-based framework. And it allocates a substantial sum of money ($20.5 million) to projects that deliver more flow to the river – a critical building block in the work to restore the watershed. We look forward to moving this solid plan into comprehensive, on-the-ground restoration actions in the Upper Clark Fork. Learn more and find talking points to submit public comment in support of the plan. You can help put long-term restoration actions into place on the Clark Fork. Download CFC's Fact Sheet on the Restoration Plan Letters in support will go a long way toward helping Governor Schweitzer sign off on the long-term plan, ultimately helping make the Clark Fork clean, healthy, and whole once again.
