Montana Rivers License Plate

Montana Rivers License Plate Who would have thought you could take the river with you where ever you go? Introducing Montana Rivers. Montana's newest specialty license plate. It became available Aug. 19, 2007, and it features artwork by Monte Dolack—the same as the print shown below.

The cost? Only $35 to buy. $25 to renew. But the best part is that it’s an easy way to show your support for clean and healthy rivers, while making a financial contribution that goes directly to the Coalition and our work to protect and restore the watershed.

So how can you get your vehicles all set up with Montana Rivers plates? It’s easy. Go straight to your county licensing bureau and make the buy.

If your current plates are about to expire, you can wait for a renewal notice to arrive in the mail. Then, look for a check box on your mailed renewal notice and enclose $35 with your renewal payment. You can also renew with a Montana Rivers plate by stopping at your county licensing bureau.

Sample plates are also available for $30 generic (AAA-000) or $35 for personalized.

Monte Dolack Witness to Change Print

Monte Dolack Print It’s not every day a dam gets dismantled. Yet that is exactly what friends of the Clark Fork are witnessing this year now that the Milltown Reservoir Superfund cleanup is in the dam removal stage. The Coalition commissioned Missoula artist Monte Dolack to create a print that captures this moment, as a still reservoir transitions into a free-flowing confluence of two of Montana’s mightiest rivers. The end result of this artistic project—a Dolack print—limited edition run, with 250 available for purchase.

The cost is $200 per print. After all, once the dam is gone, the only reminders we will have of this rich piece of Montana history will be photos and this limited edition print.

Lithographs

During the fall of 2001, Russell Chatham created a four-piece portfolio of lithographs to capture impressions and emotions evoked by experiences along the Clark Fork River. The prints were drawn from small pencil sketches and memory at Mr. Chatham's print shop in Livingston, MT. The four editions consist of 375 numbered pieces and twenty-five artists proofs each. They measure 16 x 20 inches, and are signed and numbered. The aluminum plates on which the images were drawn have all been destroyed.

Mr. Chatham and his co-producer, former board chair Geoffrey Sutton, donated 50 of the lithographs to the Clark Fork Coalition to raise money to protect the river.

You can purchase a set (unframed) for $2,500. The price includes the four lithographs, as well as a leatherbound and signed edition of The River We Carry With Us (published by Chatham's own Clark City Press).

Book

Book The River We Carry With Us The River We Carry With Us explores life in western Montana's Clark Fork River basin. Some of Montana's finest writers from past and present give us landscape and history-in grand sweeps and intimate recollections-taking us on a journey from the mining ruins of the upper Clark Fork, to the trout-rich Big Blackfoot, to the calm waters of the Bitterroot and finally, to the cool depths of Idaho's Lake Pend Oreille.

With a foreword from William Kittredge, this collection of voices speaks to our changing yet constant relationship with the river. Historical pieces, such as a travelogue in Harper's Magazine in 1894 and the account of a float trip down the Bitterroot in 1883, are juxtaposed with the work of more than twenty of Montana's best contemporary writers, including: Rick Bass, Sandra Alcosser, Ian Frazier, Annick Smith, Richard Manning, David James Duncan, James Lee Burke, Phil Condon, Duncan Adams, Fred Haefele, Caroline Patterson, Debra Earling, Edwin Dobb, Richard Hugo, Norman Maclean, Ginny Merriam, Don Snow, Colin Chisholm, and more.

Published by Clark City Press, the book is available in the following:

lackfoot Photos
Photographer Mark Wilson, with Missoula-based Picture Tomorrow, offers 14 striking photographs of the Blackfoot, near the site of the McDonald Project-a proposed cyanide heap-leach gold mine, which was stopped in 1998 by a voter-passed initiative to ban cyanide heap-leaching in Montana.

All framed, all in color, they document the river's quiet scenes, secluded bends, and secret moments. Check out the "Blackfoot Gold" exhibit for details and prices, which range from $110 to $350 (proceeds benefit both the Coalition and Picture Tomorrow). Visit Picture Tomorrow to place an order.
